Winsor Pilates REVIEW – Hands-On with Slimming Pilates from WinsorSlim.com
You’ve probably noticed I’ve posted a lot about Mari Winsor Slimming Pilates from WinsorSlim.com lately. Well I bit the bullet and purchased the product right after the holidays! I’ve now worked out with Mari for 3 weeks. I figured it was time for me to talk about my own personal experiences with it.
If you’re a regular visitor to this site, you know I like saving money. Not just because it’s nice to get things at a discount, but also because my husband and I just don’t have that much money to spend. I’ve been doing Pilates for a while now and thought it would be great to be able to do some workouts at home. Well, that idea evaporated the second I saw the prices for a new Reformer or Cadillac…$1000…$1500…$3000? It was while searching for an alternative that I found Mari Winsor Pilates and the Slimming Pilates system.
WHAT IS MARI WINSOR SLIMMING PILATES?
The site WinsorSlim.com describes the Slimming Pilates system as a new Pilates workout that combines traditional muscle-defining sculpting with figure-slimming cardio. It sounded interesting, but that’s why the marketing guys get paid the big bucks. The real attraction for me at first was the price: $59.90 was a lot more attractive than $1500. Granted with shipping the total jumps to $74.85, but again: that’s a lot more attractive than $1500. Still, my fear was that I would get stuck with some cheap piece of crap that wouldn’t help me do the Pilates exercises I was used to from my classes at the Y. Turns out, I was wrong.
The Winsor Slimming Pilates system arrived in a slim box containing the following items neatly packed:
- The Accelerator system: a short bar, two hand weights, and two clip-on handles with a resistance cord
- A case with 3 DVDs: Superfast Body Blast, ABsession, and a Quick Start weight loss program
- A pamphlet called Mari Winsor’s Rapid Results Weight Loss Plan
- And a tape measure (good for checking how things are progressing)
There were also several bonus items:
- A door attachment for the resistance cord
- A wall chart with information on different workouts that can be done with the door attachment
- Pilates of the Fit & Famous workout DVD
- Mari Winsor’s On-The-Go Eating Guide
- And information on getting a free 30-day trial of the VIP access to Mari Winsor’s Web Club
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The equipment is sturdy and well made, not the cheap crap I feared I would be getting. The short bar and hand weights are durable coated metal wrapped in a foam grip. The diameter is big enough that you can really get a firm grip during a workout and the foam grips are comfortable and easy to hold even with sweaty hands (though I’m curious how they’ll hold up over repeated workouts). The clip-on handles and resistance cord have similarly robust construction with the same foam grips attached by strong fabric straps to metal clips (in the case of the handles) and metal rings (in the case of the resistance cord). In addition, the resistance cord has a really nice fabric covering. There are also four metal caps used to attach the resistance cord to the short bar and hand weights. Finally, the bonus door attachment was made with the same strong fabric straps as the clip-on handles. Overall I was impressed, though it would’ve been nice if they’d included a mat. I recommend using a standard yoga mat – I have several.
FIRST WORKOUT
My abs are how you say? Not good. So for my first workout I decided to try the ABsession DVD. It starts like you’d expect with a basic imprinting routine and then on to some hundreds. After that, we got to the main event and busted out the Accelerator. A few minutes after looping my feet through the handles for the first time and I forgot all about Reformers and Cadillacs. There were also some fun exercises involving the door attachment. The different moves were simple enough, involving different ways of bending your legs to create resistance with the resistance cord, but I was sweating just as much as I do at my classes at the Y. 20 minutes later it was all over and I could barely get off my butt to hit the ‘power’ button on the remote.
I needed a day of rest before my next workout. This time I chose the bonus DVD: Pilates of the Fit & Famous. I figured if it’s good enough for Charlize Theron, it’s good enough for me. (I don’t know if Ms. Theron actually does any Mari Winsor workouts, but she’s been my nemesis since I first saw The Cider House Rules.) You get four different workouts to choose from. Since my abs were still screaming I decided to go with the Cardio workout. The Accelerator is used again, though this time the workout was less focused on the abs and involved more of a full-body routine. There’s plenty of variety to keep things interesting and, to keep the heart-rate up, the progression from one exercise to the next is pretty quick. By the end I was dripping with sweat yet again (and swearing a bit according to my husband). What surprised me most about this workout was how much fun it was. There were three other workouts on the DVD, but I ended up just going through the cardio workout a second time.
THIRD WORKOUT
A few days later I decided to skip the DVDs and just use the door attachment since it was so much fun. This is where the bonus wall chart comes in handy since it shows how to do all the door attachment exercises from the ABsession DVD. Let me start first by saying you should really make sure to follow the instructions when using the door attachment or you might end up sporting a bruise on your shoulder like mine (though apparently the other people in the room will find this entertaining). This wasn’t Mari Winsor’s fault, though, I just forgot to make sure the door was fully closed. The door attachment exercise routines mostly involve lying on your back and pulling against the resistance of the cord with your legs. While I felt like I got an ok workout, it was definitely slower having to check the wall chart before each new routine. I’m sure this process would be faster once I learned all the moves, but I found I missed the DVD workouts. The rest of you may feel differently, though, since being able to quickly check the wall chart may be faster than having to grab the dvd, open the case, find out you’re husband didn’t put the disc back when he sat down to watch Commando for the 500th time, finally find your DVD under the couch, pop it into the player, etc.
OVERALL FEELING ABOUT THE VIDEOS
The workout DVDs are effective and, at first, exhausting! They got easier with my second and third times through and I felt like they went by quicker. Mari Winsor is a great on-screen coach. You can tell she’s been doing this for years and her experience pays off. She is good at explaining the proper position and breathing for each move, but doesn’t chatter on and on or act over-hyped like other video trainers I’ve used. The background music is OK – it keeps the energy level up. The videos themselves are well-made with helpful menus and fit the good quality of the Accelerator and other materials. While I can only hope to look like the models in the videos, they do a great job demonstrating the full routines and the all-important scaled-down versions for beginners.
WINSOR PILATES SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Well, as you can probably tell I really love Mari Winsor’s Slimming Pilates. Not only does the Accelerator bar let me get the same great workout I’m used to from my classes at the Y, but also some amazing cardio workouts that I was surprised to find in pilates exercises. I know this is going to have me looking forward to putting on a swimsuit for a change. The Accelerator is compact enough that I can bring it with me on vacation or on our trips back home for the holidays. And the best part is it all costs over $1000 less than any other Pilates equipment on the market. Once you see the workouts, you’ll realize as I did that this is real pilates with the bonus of added cardio.
I have to say the Winsor Pilates Slimming System is one of the select products I’m really excited to recommend. It is working for me and is a good exercise solution for experienced pilates fans and newcomers alike looking to lose weight and get fit this year. Highly recommended!
Winsor Slimming Pilates is sold exclusively at WinsorSlim.com.

GREAT REVIEW
THANKS
Well you’ve been on it for three weeks … and so far !?!? How many inches have you lost ?!? I’m really interested in toning up … my butt …. thighs and arms ! Is this worth a shot ? I do go to the gym and I am seeing results but with two boys … basketball practices … school…cooking and so on hard for me to find time to go and spend an hour or two at the gym … at my home I work out late at nights but i’m looking for a change … and something to help me tone up ! I lost 100+ pounds on my own and I need to tone myself up the best I can …
ty
Hi Mel! 100lbs?! My gosh. Seems like you should be starting a weight loss program of your own. It’s been almost 4 weeks for me on the Mari Winsor Slimming Pilates and I’m down over 5 lbs. I can’t speak for the inches I’ve lost since the tape measure that came with is currently floating around in one of my kids’ toy boxes, but I definitely think I look slimmer (which is saying something since I’m typically my own worst critic). Sounds like your lifestyle is similar to mine so I’d say the Winsor Slimming Pilates is worth a shot. It’s been working out great for me. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
Hi, I love Pilates and have done many programs in the past. I was wondring how the door attachment works. I do not have a TV near a door with appropriate space to workout. Any feedback would be great before I order the program. Also did you order the extra weights that are advertised?
Thanks so much.
Hi – I really enjoyed your review and humor. Have you done her older DVDs? I was wondering – a lot of those repeat and I was wondering how this compares to her older workouts with the circle thing, etc. Thanks, Dotma
Hi, Jo. Unfortunately, after looking over my door attachment I can’t really come up with a safe way to use it that doesn’t involve securing it to an actual door. I joke about it in my review, but it was actually pretty painful having the attachment smash into my shoulder and I’d hate to have the same thing happen to you. There are definitely a lot of other exercises you can do without having to use the door attachment, so I think you could definitely still benefit from Slimming Pilates.
Oops, forgot to mention that I decided not to get the extra weights, though I kind of wish I had now just to have even more variety in my workouts.
Hi Dotma. I haven’t tried any of Mari Winsor’s older DVDs. I actually hadn’t heard of her until I started looking into buying Pilates equipment. What do you think of her older stuff?
In 2004 I bought the Winsor Pilates DVD set that had the 3 workouts: Accelerated Results, 20 Min workout, and The Basics. I did the Accelerated Results and the 20 Min workout alternately every other day, 6 days a week. Went from 140 to 115 in 6 months. Made up my own diet too.
Well, over the years, got busy, stopped working out. Yeah, I know, stupid and gained all my weight back. Tried P90X, Ten Minute Trainer, and Slim in 6 from Beach Body. Although my stamina definately increased, inches were not really lost in the 2 years I tried.
I saw this program and jumped on it. In fact, I bought a set for my next door workout partner and we love it. I have only had it a few days but cannot believe how exhausted I am after 20 min. I feel about the same as I did after an hour on my other workouts. Hoping to get rid of the “muffin top” for good.
Thanks for the sharing, Angel! It’s been over a month for me and I’m definitely seeing some results. Even though the workouts have been kicking my butt the hardest part has definitely been finding the time. Be sure to come on back and let us know how things are going with this new program. It’s always encouraging to hear someone else’s success stories!
As for the door attachment…..do you have a laptop that you can use DVD’s in?? Problem solved…pop the dvd into the laptop….get a chair or tv type tray…set it up anywhere in the house that there is a door and go to work on the system.
I love the product and have really noticed fast results. However, I can say that I am not satisfied with the customer service. I have tried several times accessing the web club without success. Talking to customer service has not been helpful either. I can’t seem to get a password and no one from customer service seems to know what they are talking about. Has anyone been successful with the web club? How did you get your password?
Hi Jessica. I’m sorry to say I haven’t tried the web club yet so I can’t say much about how to get a password. Can any of you other readers give Jessica a hand?
Hi, I was wondering if you purchased this online? I’m very much interested in getting the system however Im always a little wary of ordering these tv products online/over the phone. Aside from the shipping were there any hidden charges?
Has anyone bought the extra weights?
Hi,
I’m seriously thinking about getting this, but wonder what kind of time commitment is required to see results? I know that so many other products say that you need to workout to their DVDs and regimes 6-7 days for 60 minutes (plus or minus) to see the results they advertise, but I’m a working mom and can’t make that commitment. For those of you who are liking Mari’s Slim Pilates are the requirements reasonable/attainable?
Hi,
I just received Mari’s Slim kit and I love it!! I was also, impressed with the quality. I have used Mari Windsor Pilates for a long time since her first video series. I now attend a classical pilates studio with an instructor who studied under the same person as Mari Winsor, Ramona. I can only go twice a week, but wanted to do more with pilates through the week and voila, I saw the infomercial. Ordered online!! These DVDs are well done and Mari is so precise about the importance of the breathing! That is the key factor to pilates! I am glad I bought them and excited to use them in my home! I am hoping for good things! I have found that Pilates is the one exercise program that I don’t lose interest. Wishing the best for all of you!!
Hi everyone thanks for the reviews. Does anyone know if the door attachment can be used with something besides a door?
Hi Janet. I have the system and I live in a very small apartment with no doors near our television. I use the window in the living room to use the door attachment. It only works if your window is a conventional upward sliding one, but it works well as long as you lock the window securely.
I Got the Winsor Slimming Kit on Feb 17th. I decided to measure myself on Feb 28 and the most impressive result was I had lost 3.5 inches off my hips!! (still have at least 3 to go)..Anyways I LOVE this! I do the DVD with the Cardio and the burn and firm. The Burn and Firm is a GREAT workout for the thighs and butt!! I can’t believe how much my rear has been lifted and the saddle bags are much smaller!! I have also been eating very clean so this help. I have many winsor DVD’s and this system has to be my favorite!! I recommend this to anyone who wants to get a ‘long, lean, sexy body!’
How much does the extra weights cost? I own the Pilates Power Gym and love it! Would I get a better workout with this than the Power Gym? I’m 51, 5′3, 160 lbs and want to lose about 30 lbs. I do feel a difference with the Power Gym and do it about 5 days a week for 20-30 min each time. I have lower back issues and it seems to relieve that. Worried about doing exercises on the floor.
I have been working out hard at the gym for a long time. My body type tends to get bulky muscles so I have been told to try pilates to lengthen. I am used to a 1 to 2 hour cardio/sculpt workout that leaves me sweating and exhausted. The mari’s 20 minute workout does not seem at all hard for me. Does anyone have advice as to weather or not I will see results in such a short workout that does not feel challenging?
HI I am intersted in the Winsor slimming Kit. I am about 75 pounds over weight. I need something low impact but effective. I would like to know if it would be worth getting with my weight. I am pretty flexable b/c I was in ballet for 8 years. Would you guys reckonmend it for me? Thanks!!!
I’m sure I will be ordering this soon! I have the Winsor Pilates Basic Dvd set & love them!…My question to those of you who have lost inches (which is awesome I have to say! Way to go!..)Have you changed eating habbits? I know a “meal plan” or whatever comes with it. I’m an extreamly picky eater & in mid Kansas, a lot of things suggested to eat, you can’t even find around here! lol…so i never follow diets.. I do follow the point system with wt. watchers,& do walking with Leslie Sansone, this has helped me to lose weight, but I’m trying to tone my tummy & lower body. Thanks!
Kate,
First off, great review! Your humor and facts are refreshing and spot on!
I am a novice when it comes to Pilates, but when I saw the infomercial for Mari Winsor’s New Slimming Pilates, I just had to have it. I wanted to be beach ready and in good shape and feel good, especially because of all of the vacationing that I will be doing in the next several months. So I opted in and bought the same kit that you mentioned above. For those that asked, nope, you aren’t tied into any long upsell scripting or anything, you can specify quickly that you do not want the trial this or trial that.
Today is my first rest day. I’ve completed the Superfast Body Blast, and ABsession.
I eat fairly well, so I didn’t change my diet based on the eating program. I am a busy working mom, so finding time to work out is always a challenge for me, but the sessions aren’t long, and if you follow the quick start program (work outs are specified for the entire month), you should be in pretty good shape as to know what to do and when. If you follow that plan, some days you will do 2 workouts instead of just one, and they seem to be approximately 20 mintues each.
All in all, I am in fairly ok shape, but I wanted something to tighten up my powerhouse and get the ab results that I knew I wouldn’t get as quickly through other work out methods. (Getting that extra tummy fat down is crucial). I felt the results of my first 2 workouts and I am actually loving the way I feel afterwards (tired, but a good tired), and yup I said a few choice words at the end
.
One thing I would recommend though, if you have hardwood flooring (real hardwood), please be sure to get a thick yoga mat for your work outs, or else your buns and spine are going to hate you for it.
Hi
Hi
Great review Kate! definitely inspiring!I want to give Mary Winsor slimming pilates a try, but I have a question. I have bad knees, is the Cardio part high impact/tough on your knees?is it done lying down like the other exercises or standing up?
Also, any modifications/instructions for inexperienced newcomers like myself?
thanks
Hi
I am interested in trying out Mary Winsor Slimming Pilates- few queries though-
1.Is there adequate instruction/modified version for beginners?
2. I have knee problems – hence cannot do usual aerobic/high impact workouts. Is it intense on the knees, specially the Cardio workouts?or are they cardio moves incorporated in pilates exercises?
thanks a lot
Hi guys,
Sorry I haven’t been answering questions this past month. I was in a car accident and broke a few bones so I’ve been laid up and away from the computer. I should be back on my feet and busting my butt to Mari Winsow Pilates again soon enough, though.
Thanks for all the comments! I’ll be more responsive now that I can move.
Namrata and Tina, there is definitely adequate instruction for beginners and there are both lying down and standing exercises. I really can’t say how they would be on your knees, though. Maybe you could show the website to your doctor and see what he/she says? I think the Mari Winsor system is good for all fitness levels, but I don’t have the expertise to know if it’ll further injure your knees or not. If you do talk to your doctor, please let us know what the result is in case others have the same question. Thanks!

Jessica–I had a terrible time getting on the Web Club! I couldn’t get a password for weeks. Ooohhh I was so frustrated!! I really wanted on, because they have an intermediate rotation calendar on this Web Club. They also said they have an advanced rotation calendar, but I can’t get to that one yet–I don’t know if they don’t have it yet, or if they are holding out. I called customer service and emailed them multiple times. I finally asked to speak to a manager–no one seemed to be able to help me. The manager couldn’t either, but passed me on to Gaiam customer service (the parent company, I think) It still took a while, and all I wanted was that calendar off this web club. Finally I called again–and bingo! I got a password and user name. I have no idea why it was so darn hard, but it was really frustrating!!! I now have the rotation calendar, and will try it out in the morning….otherwise I really have enjoyed doing these DVD’s at home. It’s great and I would much rather workout at home than trying to go to a gym! Good luck getting your password…
Hi everyone! I’ve done pilates at the gym and I guess I’d say I’m at an intermediate level. But I’d never heard of Mari Windsor. I saw the infomercial and it looked so intriguing that I thought I’d give it a try (I’ve been looking for some work-out DVDs to do at home). So I ordered the the deluxe set (with 2 additional DVDs and 4 extra weights for $29.90). I thought I’d be able to add the extra 4 lbs. to the Accelerator bar, but you can only add 2 lbs. (I guess it’s really meant to be used with the hand weights). I’ve only done 3 work-outs so far, but they’re pretty good and somewhat intensive. I barely broke a sweat, but considering the fact that they’re only 20 minute work-outs, they’re still kind of challenging. O was a bit disappointed with the Abs work-out; it wasn’t as challenging as I thought it would be, but I really like the cardio one. For those that think it’s too easy, I would suggest doing the DVD twice or doing two work-outs. Or maybe modifying the moves to make it more difficult (keep your core constantly engaged, draw out each movement, etc.) I didn’t sign up for the web club (I didn’t know that you could get intermediate and advanced schedules), but it would be great if someone could post those work-out schedules for the rest of us (pleeeaaaase!)
). Overall, I think this was a great buy.
Hey, Abby. Thanks for sharing. I’d also be interested in those workout schedules. Though I do plan on giving the web club a try one of these days…

I am thinking about ordering the kit. I am concerned about the door attachment. My doors are no where near a TV. I thought I could use my portable DVD player when I do those workouts. Any thoughts.
Thanks
I’ve been doing different kind of workouts for a while and i think i came to the point that i need a change. Would not mind to loose a few pounds of course but mostly i need to shape-up. Is this the right think for me? i am 143lbs,was 135 lbs last year….
(, and 5′7, i do follow the schedule and eat right so honestly/realy is this what i need? really want to get in to my last year bathing suit…Thank you for the honest
Jo, I use my laptop for the Ab workout, it works fine. I have had the program since March, but I’ve just started doing it regularly (it’s been hard to find 20-40 minutes ALONE without waking up before the crack of dawn, which I’m too lazy to do) I love the program, the last 2 days, I’ve started doubling up and doing 2 workouts, like that WAY better! We’ll see how it goes!

I’ve been using the system for about 2.5 months now and love it. The regimen of 20 minutes a day really works with my schedule and I enjoy the convenience. The initial purchase experience was frustrating – it took over a month for the product to be delivered after many emails and phone calls. I never did get the confirmation email that was promised… Now I want to move up to the intermediate workout calendar and can’t find how to join the web club, much less get my 30 day free membership. The postings above have helped me to understand what to expect and that I need to pick up the phone. It is unfortunate that their customer service and web site are so crummy. They give a bad reflection on what is actually a quality physical product and a helpful workout system.
I just got winsor slim and i am starting it. 5′9, muscular hourglass build 150 lbs. Looking to slim dowm 8-10 lbs. Of the several of you on this forum, what was your eating like( those who lost weight) and did u just do the 20 minutes a day or did you add cardio. and if so what. I want results with this since i did buy it. As i am sure everyone else does aswell. =)
love the blog, thanks for sharing your thoughts
found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later
I would love to see the advance calendars if anyone could post them. I am hesitant to order just because I want to make sure it is worth the money. I need to change up my routine, but need the new workout to be very challenging. Thanks so much
I just ordered the kit and i am interested in knowing how much folks changed their diet to see weight loss and inches loss? While I eat faily well (good diet) and work out 4 days a week at gym and cardio routines I am struggling with about 20 pounds that I need to lose. Seems everything i have tried in combo with working out does not seem to shed the pounds. I am really hoping this kit will top it off and get them off.
Also, how long did it take for folks to see results?? Would appreciate any input.
Hi Maureen. I’ll try to get approval from Mari Winsor to post the advanced pilates workouts here. In the meantime I can say that they are very challenging (at least for me!).
Hi Stephanie. I didn’t make too many severe changes to my diet other than cutting down on the junk food. One little thing that seems to have made a difference, though, is eating a bunch of tiny meals throughout the day rather than just the normal three I was previously used to. I find I eat less, even if I eat more often, and it keeps my energy up.
As for results, even though I swore that first night I looked better in the mirror, it took at least three weeks before my husband started to agree with me
Hello all. Thank you for all the great reviews. I have been looking for a new work out. I was training for a marathon running about 4-6 miles 3 days a week but recently my knee injury and sciatica are so bad that I had to stop working out all together. I used the winsor pilates basic 3 DVDs about 5 years ago and liked them. I was just wondering if anyone had tried those and if they think the accelerator system is better? Also any thoughts on going from a higher intensity cardio workout to pilates? Even with running I never saw much of a difference. Has anyone had better results with pilates vs running? Would appreciate any advice
Thanks!
